Yoga for Scoliosis & Back Care: Spotlight on the Cervical & Thoracic Spine
Has texting left you with droopy shoulders and a real pain in the neck? Do you feel like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. The shoulder joint includes more muscles than any other part of the body. As a result, the muscles of the neck and shoulder tend to be an area where many people experience tightness or hold tension.
This workshop will look at how common misalignments due to the various lateral curves of scoliosis affect the upper back and neck. Using Iyengar yoga to align the spine, participants first learn how to release muscles and then learn how to develop concavity in the thoracic spine while lengthening the cervical spine. This will create space, increase awareness and relieve pain.
Participants will leave with an understanding of common misalignments of posture, how they contribute to tightness or discomfort in the upper body, and some basic poses that release tension and relax muscles of the neck/shoulders. No previous yoga experience necessary.
