Patanjala Yoga Sutra Paricaya
This is a birthday gift by Guruji Yogacharya BKS Iyengar for yoga sādhakā-s. This book in English is the first of Guruji’s books to be published by the Government of India. [This book is published by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) which is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India].
This book, as the title conveys, is an introduction (paricaya means introduction) to the yoga sūtra-s and is dedicated by Guruji to the children of India. Children indicates not only those who are chronologically young but all those young to the subject of yoga and who wish to get introduced to the depth of knowledge that flows in the sūtra-s.
Each sūtra is given in Sanskirt followed by a transliteration in Roman script followed by the sūtra split up making it easy for even those uninitiated in Sanskrit to clearly articulate the sūtra-s. Very simple meaning in English of each word in the sūtra is followed by a clear straightforward explanation of the sūtra. The language is such that a modern day youth can easily relate to the ancient wisdom to understand the purport of yoga.
