IYNAUS is delighted to present Spotlighting Level 3 CIYTs.

IYNAUS scheduled a day each month to spotlight one Level 3 CIYT, offering them an opportunity to contribute their time and teach a one-and-a-half-hour class.

May 18, 1:00 p.m. EDT – Creating Space in Backbends with Karen Allgire

Backward extensions bring mobility and strength, balancing the opening of the front body with the firmness of the back body. These poses help cultivate courage, energy, and optimism. B.K.S. Iyengar called backbends “the elixir of life.” Learn to approach backbends, both with and without props, in ways that create space, freedom, and quiet exhilaration.

Karen Allgire has taught yoga since 1998 and has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher for over 20 years. After a rewarding career as a modern dance teacher, Karen found a spiritual home in Iyengar Yoga and a new way to share her love of teaching. Karen’s approach to teaching and practice has been profoundly influenced by her studies with Mary Dunn, Dean and Rebecca Lerner, and Laurie Blakeney. Karen specializes in blending anatomy, imagery, and philosophy to nurture transformation in our yogic practices and our lives.

Karen has made five trips to India to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. She was a member of the IYNAUS Newsletter committee from 2003 to 2008 and has contributed several articles to Yoga Samachar. Karen was the Registration Chair for the 2011 Midwest Regional Iyengar Yoga Conference in Chicago and served on the Assessment Committee from 2019 to 2022. The opportunity to study in India and her studies in the United States have instilled within Karen profound gratitude for Guruji’s teachings and their power to guide us on the inward journey.

Karen is the owner of Green Tara Yoga in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. To learn about Karen’s online class schedule, visit www.greentarayoga.com.
