April 20, 1:00 p.m. PDT – Action in Yoga, Yoga in Action with Anna Delury
“Action is movement with intelligence. The world is filled with movement. What the world needs is more conscious movement, more action.” B.K.S. Iyengar
When I first heard Guruji speak of this concept some 40-odd years ago in Pune, I was naive and young. And so, of course, I thought I understood what he meant. I did not. Only when class began and he created the actual experience of Asana coming alive did I begin to have the slightest glimmer of what he was talking about. I was entranced! In this class, I will share what I learned from him about how practice and sensitivity shift mere movement into intelligent action in the asana hall and beyond.
Come prepared to work and have fun. All are welcome.
Action: a basic tenet and principle of Iyengar Yoga. Join Anna and explore the many ways to transform movement into action.
Anna Delury is one of Southern California’s Senior Iyengar Yoga teachers and a co-founder of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles. Her yoga journey began as a teenager when she developed sciatica. Looking for ways to relieve the pain, Ann was led in 1977, by chance, to Iyengar Yoga. Anna traveled in 1982 to the Ramani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India. There, she began receiving direct guidance and instruction from B.K.S. Iyengar. From that time on, she has traveled regularly to India to be with the Iyengar family, furthering her studies as well as training in all aspects of teaching Iyengar Yoga, from beginners to seasoned students, as well as its therapeutic applications with an emphasis on orthopedic conditions and women’s health. Additionally, Anna holds a degree in Kinesiology from UCLA. Known for her insight and wry sense of humor, Anna brings a practical application of yoga philosophy into each asana class she teaches, as she helps to guide students to a deeper understanding and awareness of what lies within their practice and themselves.
