Becoming a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher

ELIGIBILITY

• You need to be a member of IYNAUS a year prior to applying for certification.
• Order the Certification Manual for the year that you will be assessed. Certification Manuals are updated by March 1 of each year.
• Order the Certification Manual.

STEP 1 – FIND A MENTOR

• Find a Mentor who will agree to help you through your certification process.
• Mentors and Recommending teachers must be of a certain certification level.
• Mentors are only required for Introductory I and Introductory II levels.

STEP 2 – FILL OUT INITIAL APPLICATION

• Introductory I and Introductory II candidates must have a Mentor and a Recommending Teacher.
• All other levels must have two Recommending Teachers.
• Recommending teachers must always be a certain level above the candidate.

STEP 3 – REQUEST RECOMMENDATIONS

• Submit the filled out applications to your Recommending Teachers (and Mentor, as appropriate) for their recommendations.

STEP 3.5 – CHOOSE VENUES

• Candidates must choose three venues in order of preference
• The venue choices are not guaranteed

STEP 4 – SUBMIT APPLICATION

• Candidate may submit application only after all items are in place
  • Current membership
  • Mentor
  • Mentor recommendation
  • Recommending teacher recommendation
  • Correctly completed application
  • 3 venue choices
  • Applications must be received by May 1st to be accepted

STEP 5 – PAYMENT

• Standard shopping cart payment options after application has been successfully submitted
  • Credit card payment
  • Mail-in payment
